The farm’s presentation focused on how and why we provide meaningful employment to young adults of differing abilities to work on the farm, in the bakery and in our hydroponic greenhouse. Members of the BOS and the audience learned about how the farm has touched the lives of team members from the CAST program at Woodgrove High School and at ECHO in Leesburg, as well as the broader benefits the farm provides to the residents of the county beyond employment: namely sustainable agriculture and delicious produce and baked goods.
Chair Phyllis Randall said, “What you’re doing is so amazing. We don’t quite know yet why…people with differing abilities do better when their hands are in the dirt…and it is so important that you’re doing this work right now.”
Chair Randall stated she does not typically allow for clapping in the boardroom, but the chair and her fellow supervisors and members of the audience generously applauded the work of the VOHF team. Details were provided on how to learn more about the farm at View of Heaven Farm, our new online winter market and other ways to support VOHF.
